Flory Brisset : Embroiderer 2.0
The first time I met Flory Brisset, it is was at Salon du Luxe in Paris. She explained to me all her interesting know-how in contemporary embroidery… I immediately thought that even the word “contemporary” was already too old for these pieces from the future !!! So I went to meet her in her studio in the north of Paris to discover a little more about this unusual skill. The opportunity to share with you a little private visit to the backstages of her next creations !
An idea of genius !
Passionate about embroidery from an early age, Flory quickly turned to applied arts. Still a student at the Duperré school in Paris, she was only 21 when she decided to start her own workshop to prepare for the release. She then created her very first collection. The challenge ? Find its place in the market while trying to present more contemporary embroidery.
I wondered how it was possible to get the embroidery out of its traditional image: a thread and a pearl…
She is interested in materials that are crazier than others : Paper, plastic, sound foam, or even polymers ! And what says modernity also says … 3D printer!
With her sidekick, Hugo Rubio, they imagine the craziest pieces ! Then the machine can do the job. Flory’s contemporary embroidery can now incorporate a book cover, dress or design object. The whole works but it remains to convince the biggest players…
I had the audacity to send emails to the stylists of haute-couture houses to show my work in photographs and then I tried to contact them non-stop !
No vacation, nights spent working on each project. She draws her strength undoubtedly like all enthusiasts : from her work ! This is how, by perseverance, she “passed the switchboard” as she says with a smile, to finally join the decision makers and cajole a meeting.
Today Dior, Saint-Laurent, Jean-Paul Gautier, Schiaparelli, Margiela, and Stéphane Rolland call her for unique pieces !

Latest order ? A few pieces for the showroom Saint Laurent. She now employs two people to assist her.
My dream ? “Collaborate one day with Iris Van Harpen!”
I do not always know where I’m going but anyway why not ?
