Marisol : Designer of Haute Couture Wigs

The first time I heard about Marisol, it was through an SMS from my chief editor ! « I have a subject (…) It’s a profile of Marisol. Do you know her ? You’re going to love it ! It’s the haute coiffure made in France ». I could have answered him: No no, sorry ! Or … Thanks but I have a bottle to give at 2am and 5am at the moment so: getting dressed with make-up AND hair before noon ! I don’t think so. Instead, I grabbed my iphone and typed something more like … « Yes, definitely ! I know that’s the kind of thing for me ! »
I don’t need to say it but a freelancer who turns down a project doesn’t exist and whenever I have the chance to meet such a talented artist, I am all up for it !!!
Monday : the appointment is at 2 pm (God does exist !) I arrive to the Studio Marisol located in the Marais in the heart of Paris. I immediately fell in love. The sun shines through the large windows, it really is beautiful, quiet, it’s … like nothing I’ve ever seen before ! Everything is made from or covered with hair !!!
Wigs, dresses, crowns, or even denim jackets ! The creations on display had been used in the haute couture fashion shows of houses like Kenzo, Castelbajac or Martin Margiela. They can also be regularly found in magazines.
“The only limit I have is that of my imagination !”
Marisol arrives smiling. I discovered a friendly, radiant woman. And an artist happy to explain about her extraordinary passion ! In addition to being her workshop and her exhibition place, studio Marisol is a real hairdressing salon that takes customers by appointment.
TFM: What is so special about your hair salon ?
We cut the hair when it’s dry ! Usually, you start with shampoo, and then you make the cut. Whereas here it’s the opposite ! The good thing about it is that there are no surprises, you directly get to see the result. It’s perfect for anyone who is hesitating to change their hairstyle, or someone with curly hair too. Working women don’t have the time to style their hair they just want something simple and beautiful naturally !
TFM: You also make hairstyles for catwalks, fashion shows and magazines. Why are your creations so excessive ?
That’s what I like about creation, everything is allowed, there are no limits. I can make very tight things, fine braids or go for vaporizing, foamy material. But I create an emotion for people. I see it when people pass by in front of my shop or during shows. They either love it or hate it. But that’s up to them. Me, I love it !
TFM: What are your most beautiful creations ?
I’ve made some hats for Hermès shaped like cones, dresses made out of hair for a private party or a huge horn covered with hair for a Lady Gaga videoclip ! Currently, I am working on bags made of hair, and jackets with hairy epaulettes.

Price? With Marisol herself the cut is for 150 euros. About 90 euros with the rest of her team.
